Blog topic: Staying Healthy This Flu Season

Tis the season friends! Yes, with the passage of an eventful Halloween we are making our way into the season everyone loves the most: FLU AND COLD SEASON. The fall semester is ramping up with tests, projects, and labs, so this is the perfect time to make sure you start building the habits that will help you get through the rest of the semester sickness free!

1) Get a flu shot. The flu virus is continually changing, and this is the most effective way to prevent getting it. Student Health Services offers the seasonal flu vaccine at Redfern Health Center. Flu Vaccine Clinics are held every Wednesday at Redfern Health Center, no appointment necessary. Walk in between 9–11 a.m. and 1:30–4:15 p.m. to get the flu vaccine.

2) Wash your hands a lot. Scrub hard and sing the Birthday song twice to make sure you completely rid yourself of those semester sabotaging germs! Since you may not always have access to a sink, soap, and water, make sure to carry around some hand sanitizer that can keep you germ-free in a pinch.

3) Avoid sick people. This one is tough for us college kids because we are always surrounded by people whether it’s in a dining hall, cramped lecture hall, or even your own housing. However, if you know that someone you see frequently is sick then do your best to keep them from infecting you! You could be the pioneer of bringing the surgical mask back into style…

4) Keep up a healthy lifestyle. The weather is getting colder and colder, but if you want to keep on top of your semester don’t let that discourage you from keeping up healthy habits. Exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and eat a piece of broccoli. Find the routine that works best for you to manage the busy life that you lead!

There you go! Keep these tips in mind as you go about the rest of your semester and they should serve you well. Stay healthy Tigers!

Sincerely,

The Wellness Ambassadors
